... An Astrological Nasty ...
The planet Mercury governs communications for humanity.
During periods of Mercury retrograde the planet Mercury
appears
to be moving backwards in the sky from our perspective
here on
earth.
This astrological configuration makes all things governed
by the
planet Mercury, for all astrological signs, foul up
to a certain
extent. Being as Mercury governs communications, that
means
that all communications are problematic, in relationships,
electronically, via post, computers, telephones etc.
Even
things like cheques en route to us in the mail end up
delayed or
miscalculated when they finally do arrive.
Often major events in our lives happen in retrograde
periods, such
as accidents or relationship break ups. As people endure
this
confusion their tempers shorten and they become irritable
and
unreasonable. This astrological configuration also
seems to
affect electro mechanical items. You can count on an
appliance or
vehicle that you have been nursing along to give up
the ghost and
die at the most inconvenient time during these times.
Mercury retrograde is days of frustration and the best
way to
endure it is to remember that it will pass and to lay
low and
compensate for it in whatever fashion you can manage.
Schedule
unfamiliar traveling, important contract negotiations
and decisions,
and any difficult confrontations to periods when this
astrological
alignment is not in place.
There are no more periods of this configuration coming
up in 1999
(thank goodness) because we have just been through one,
(November
5th up to and including November 25th) with all its
related
frustrations. Did you notice a general feeling of tension
for
those 20 days?
The periods of Mercury retrograde coming up in year 2000 are:
February 17th to March 15th.
June 23rd to July 17th.
October 18th to November 10th.
It seems for me that either the start or ending dates
of these
periods usually accompanies noticeable retrograde related
events.
I hope that understanding this phenomena will help!
Forewarned is forearmed in the case of this astrological
configuration.

THE ZEN MASTER IN NEW YORK CITY
The Zen Master is visiting New York City from Tibet.
He goes up to
a hot dog vendor and says, "Make me one, with everything."
The hot dog vendor fixes a hot dog and hands it to the
Zen Master,
who pays with a $20 bill.
The vendor puts the bill in the cash box and closes
it. "Where's
my change?" asks the Zen Master.
The vendor responds, "Change must come from within."

:::Just for Fun:::
Kissing Under the Mistletoe
The Druids considered the mistletoe to be a sacred plant
and
believed it had miraculous properties which could cure
illnesses,
serve as an antidote against poisons, ensure fertility
and protect
against the ill effects of .
Moreover, whenever enemies met under the mistletoe in
the forest,
they had to lay down their arms and observe a truce
until the next
day. From this has seemingly come the ancient custom
of hanging a
ball of mistletoe from the ceiling and exchanging kisses
under it
as a sign of friendship and goodwill.
Another version, however, says that this custom, which
was widespread
among the Anglo-Saxons, was connected to the legend
of Freya, goddess
of love, beauty and fertility. According to legend,
a man had to kiss
any young girl who, without realizing it, found herself
accidentally
under a sprig of mistletoe hanging from the ceiling.
Even if the significance has been long forgotten,
the custom
of exchanging a kiss under the mistletoe can still be
found in many
European countries. Thus if a couple in love exchanges
a kiss under
the mistletoe, it is interpreted as a promise to marry,
as well as
a prediction of happiness and long life. In France,
the custom
linked to mistletoe is reserved for New Year's Day:
"le Gui du Jour
de l'An" (Mistletoe for the New Year). In Italy
mistletoe is
exchanged as a gift near to the year end and is then
hung up by the
entrance doorway until the next year's holiday season
when it is
burned in the family's fireplace and replaced by a fresh
sprig.
Today, in our North American culture, kisses can be
exchanged under
the mistletoe any time during the holidays.

Exploring Your Dreams: Getting Started
What lovely connotations just the word 'dreams' brings
to mind!
Songs, poems, and pleasing metaphors all contribute
to the
mystique of dreams and the dream world.
What is a dream? A message from your subconscious?
A pre
-cognitive vision? A stress related replay of anxiety
filled
events? A comfort to those who are troubled and in
need of
encouragement? An answer to a problem that has plagued
you?
The answer is all of the above and more.
The best reason why you should pay closer attention
to your
dreams is this.....your dreams are a highly individualized
message
that is directed specifically to you! Everyone dreams,
but no one
dreams as you dream. What has significance to you in
your dream may
be meaningless to someone else. In fact there have
been instances
where closely aligned groups of people (such as families)
experience
dreams that share similar meanings.
Here are some things you can do to help yourself begin
paying closer
attention to your dreams and the messages they contain:
1. Become more aware of how you dream. Do you dream
literally? Do
things sometimes happen just as you dreamed them?
Or do you dream
symbolically? Rather than dreaming about actual people
and places,
...do your dreams substitute certain symbols or icons
instead?
Sometimes just sorting this out can bring new meaning
to dreams.
2. Familiarize yourself with some traditional dream
symbols and
interpretations. You can do this by purchasing an
inexpensive book
or by visiting and book marking some web sites that
specialize in
assisting in dream interpretation. Don't rely on
these guides too
heavily! Use them only as a 'jumping off' point for
you to better
recognize the symbols and trends in your own dreams.
3. Keep a dream journal. This is possibly the most
important step.
First, when you write your dreams down....just minutes
or even
hours after waking you will find that this helps you
recall more
details of the dream. Secondly, keeping a written
record of your
dreams will allow you to return to each dream to see
if recent
life events help you determine the significance of
these dreams.
Finally, a dream journal also helps you to identify
any dream
trends or related dreams, i.e. dreams addressing the
same issue
or dreams with the same scenarios.
4. Sharing your dreams. This final step takes a little
courage
and a little time. But once you have found a thoughtful
and
compassionate person or persons to discuss your dreams
with, you
will be surprised at the relevant interpretations
that can come
forth just by verbalizing your dreams and dream occurrences.
This
is an act that is as old as ancient times....primitive
peoples
and Indian tribes respected dreams and visions and
held them in
high regard. Many important decisions made by the
tribe were
based on the dreams of the elders. These peoples
often prayed or
meditated for dream resolutions to very real life
problems. Dream
sharing can be done with a group of real time friends,
or now
through modern technology, it can be done on various
newsgroups or
mailing lists or interactive web sites.
By using one or more of the above described methods
you can make
your dreams more meaningful, improve your dream recall
and as a
result extract greater meaning and satisfaction from
your dream
states.

... Trivial Tidbit ...
Did you know there is no such thing as levitation?
The Oxford Dictionary definition of "levitate"
is as follows:
"Make rise and float in the air, with reference
to spiritualism."
The yogis so famous for the pictures of themselves,
lying supine
with their backs a foot or so above the nearest horizontal
surface,
well they have mastered a unique parlour trick! When
a yogi
ascends into the air it is not levitation, and it is
not overcoming
earth's gravity and it is not a fraud. It IS an extremely
difficult
to execute, skillfully accomplished exercise. It IS
a distinctive
jump brought about by the contraction of the spinal
muscles, often
aptly compared to the jump of a small jumping beetle.
It IS a rare
form of jumping by jerks. The body, breaking contact
with the earth,
is stretched out in the air rigidly horizontal. Although
in the
pictures the arms of the yogis are thrust skyward, their
arms
certainly did not float there!
