How the Various Signs Fare in the Year of the Snake
by Theodora Lau
(The masculine pronoun is only used here out of
convenience as the predictions apply to females as well.)
RAT
A mixed year. The Rat has to be very careful in making
investments or important decisions. A big illness or
some
loss of money will cast gloom over him. His luck will
turn
for the better toward the end of the year and he may
be
able to recoup some losses.
OX
Good times predicted for the Ox person. He will find
it
easy to make money. Things are all within his reach
this
year. On the darker side, he may suffer from a
misunderstanding with some associate or find that some
friend betrays his confidence. All his problems can
be
resolved if he is open to discussion.
TIGER
A fair year for the Tiger. No large losses or gains
foreseen and his life could be tranquil if he is cautious
enough not to get caught up in the affairs of others.
His
progress will be steady and his illnesses minor. Most
of
his disappointments will come from persons of the opposite
sex.
RABBIT
Not much tangible progress for the Rabbit during this
year.
He may have to travel or be faced with difficulties
from
several directions. A change of residence or career
is
also indicated as he tries to consolidate or better
his
current position. He could also find less time to spend
with his family or be faced with many unplanned expenses.
DRAGON
A lucky year for the Dragon's business endeavours.
His
plans still go smoothly although he meets minor opposition.
He may have some personal or romantic problems as home
life
and love life are neglected by him.
SNAKE
A fair year for the Snake although he may feel that
his
achievements are not up to expectations. It is a year
for
him to bide his time and not make sudden changes. Patience
and a cool head are essential if he is to keep himself
out
of trouble. Business misunderstandings, romantic problems
or a slight injury to the body are foreseen. His gains
are
modest but he is going to be more concerned with securing
his position or retaining control.
HORSE
A busy, involved year that brings taxing demands on
the
Horse's time and energy. Difficulties come from partners
or friends and delays are caused by unseen obstacles.
He
will find support in his family but cannot expect a
great
deal of achievement in spite of all his efforts.
SHEEP
A good year as the Sheep regains power, position and
popularity. New and influential people help him and
he
will travel or receive some additional income. Bad
tidings may delay his progress temporarily but his goals
will be accomplished in the end.
MONKEY
A moderately happy year as the Monkey receives assistance
from friends or support from his superiors. Good times
are in store although there are some disputes at home.
A year in which he must hold his tongue and avoid
confrontation at all costs.
ROOSTER
Basically a fortunate year for the Rooster, as some
progress is indicated and he is lucky enough to retain
his
good position. No large monetary gains foreseen this
year,
although he will be able to curtail his losses to a
great
degree. Freak accidents or malicious rumours are also
likely this year and he should not take long or unnecessary
journeys.
DOG
A very good year. The Dog will still have to work hard
but he will receive due recognition of his efforts.
He
will be lucky in his business investments and will have
the support of the right people. A year for him to
take
things easy and enjoy his family life more. He will
also
benefit a lot from good advice or tips given to him
at
this time.
BOAR
A hectic and uneasy time for the Boar, although moderate
success can be expected. He will be occupied with travel,
aggressive speculation and joint ventures. He will
also
receive some sad news and have problems with the opposite
. tbacks will result mainly from overspending
or
extravagance.

The Humour Offering
A woman was worried whether or not her dead husband
made
it to heaven, so she decided to try to contact his spirit
by having a seance.
Sure enough, after the usual mumbo-jumbo of calling
to
the spirits, her husband's voice was heard answering,
"Hello Margaret, this is meeee..."
"Fred," she answered. I just have to know
if you're happy
there in the afterlife. What's it like there?"
"Ooooooh, it's much more beautiful here than I
ever
imagined," Fred answered. "The sky is bluer,
the air is
cleaner, and the pastures are much more lush and green
than I ever expected. And the only things we do, all
day
long, are eat and sleep, eat and sleep, over and over."
"Thank God, you made it to heaven," his wife cried.
"Heaven?" he answered. "What heaven?
I'm a buffalo in
Montana."

Howling at the Moon!
Lunacy, says it all. We all know that the time of the
full
moon feels strange. Legend has it that the full moon
brings
out the worst in people: more violence, suicides, accidents,
and aggression. The influence of the moon and behavior
has
been called "The Lunar Effect" or "The
Transylvania Effect."
The belief that the full moon causes mental disorders
and
strange behavior was widespread throughout Europe in
the
middle ages.
Studies show that more assaults occur around the full
moon. More crimes, self and unintentional poisonings
and
animal bites occur during the full moon cycle as well.
There are many problems encountered when trying to study
the lunar effect. For example, some studies include
"full
moon" behaviors that occur a few days before and
after the
full moon, while other studies include only those behaviors
on a single day.
The full moon appears once every 29.53 days. Sometimes
there are two full moons in one month. It is possible
to
have a month without a full moon, but this is rare and
can
only occur in February. You have to wait until February
2066 for the next month without a full moon. (I guess
we
are all going to miss that one!)
People remain convinced that the moon must do something.
After all, the earth's surface is 80 percent water;
the
human body is 80 percent water, so a human tidal effect
makes sense. Tidal variation in most coastal areas
seldom
exceeds ten feet. In smaller bodies of water, such as
lakes
and probably the human body, tides are negligible. Another
point is that the tides don't occur just once or twice
a
month; they occur once or twice a day. What happens
at full
and new moon is that the earth, moon, and sun are lined
up,
resulting in higher tides than usual.
A new idea arrives in this theorizing from the discovery
that positive and negative ions in the atmosphere have
an effect on behavior (negative ions usually favourable,
positive the opposite). Positive ions are more abundant
when the moon is full. However, the effect is slight
compared to major sources of positive ions like air
conditioning and air pollution.
The full moon affects many people worldwide causing
emotional instability and insecurity. Since the
gravitational force of the moon is strong enough to
cause the tides, therefore it is possibly changing the
gravitational effect on our glands and organs which
can
affect our moods.
Other effects include the different wavelengths of light
coming from the moon, and the full moon's affect on
our
inner pathogens. The light from the moon is of a different
combination of wavelengths and strength of light than
what
the sun gives us. It is known that different colors
of
light cause different emotional reactions. It could
be that
the moon's silvery colour is at least partially responsible
for some people's reactions. Also, we have inner pathogens
including yeast, worms, parasites, virus, and bacteria.
Perhaps the day to night gravitational change causes
a
change in the activity of these pathogens, maybe increasing
their activity which in turn increases their drain on
our
nutrients and increases the number of byproducts they
excrete into our bloodstream.
Why the full moon affects some people more than others
is
another question. It may be because some people have
borderline glandular functions or some have more pathogens.
The most likely pathogen that contributes to the full
moon
effect is yeast. Too much yeast causes a reaction in
people
by causing them to feel 'stressed out' because of the
loss
of normal digestion and increased level of toxicity
in the
blood.
Even Ann Landers says there is a cycle to her letters.
She gets more letters whenever there's a full moon.
I know better than to argue with Anne!

Trivial Tidbit
The History of the Birthday Candle
A common part of birthday celebrations is birthday
candles. The Greeks, who took their cakes to Artemis
for
blessings, placed candles on the cakes because they
felt
it made the cakes resemble the full moon. The Germans,
renown for candle making, began making small candles
for
their cakes. Some German families would instead use
one
large candle symbolizing the "light of life".
The candle
was marked with lines and numbers (usually 12) and was
burned every year. Some people believe the candles are
placed on cakes for religious reasons. Others believe
that the smoke from the candles takes their wishes up
to
the heavens. Today many people make silent wishes as
they
blow out their candles. They believe that blowing out
all
the candles in one breath will bring good luck.
I personally feel that a candle for each year of my
life
would melt the frosting on my cake at this point in
life!

Reader's Feedback Invited
As the "Atham Z - Psychic News" enters its
third year of
publication I feel that it is time that I asked you,
the
readers, for some feedback. Specifically I would like
to know if you would like to see the e-zine publication
size/length increase or decrease or has it been just
fine to date? I am finding that as time passes, each
new issue always seems to be a bit longer than the
previous ones. There is no possibility of more
frequent publications, as my busy reading schedule
precludes that option.
I would also like to know what topics you
would like to see included in this e-zine. I can't
promise that time will allow me to research all your
suggestions, but I do feel that my readers have
valuable input about how they would like to see this
publication develop.

I appreciate your support as both subscribers and customers.

In the next edition of "Atham Z - Psychic News"
I hope to
finally look at the benefits of herbal teas (which would
have made this issue far too lengthy) and provide you
with
a sampling of my most frequently asked clients' questions
(FAQ). Looking forward to seeing you then,
Regards -
