Identifying a Soulmate

People sometimes feel an unreasonable and intense
attraction or affinity for other people. This does not
always occur exclusively in a romantic relationship.
When I complete my readings I always look for the
reasons that people feel bound to one another or have
connected in the first place.

In Tarot readings, the seventeenth Major Arcana card,
The Star, is a clear indicator that whatever connection
is one of these karmic soulmate relationships. As well,
the Ace of Cups rarely appears without the soulmate
connection to justify the depth of the exchange of
affection and loyalty.

Astrologically, the twin soul resonance is also clearly
indicated. This relationship is stamped out by the
arrangement of the Sun, Moon, Venus and Ascendent.
The latter sign is often unknown because it is associated
with a person's time of birth, information which is not
always accurately recorded or available.

When one person's Moon is in the same sign as the
other person's Sun, there is usually a very intense but
short lived attraction or soulmate connection between
the two people. Please remember that not all soulmates
enjoy life long relationships. The essential fact of being
soulmates does not change over time, but the desire to
interact may wane. We have more than one soulmate
in life. Soulmates are people with whom we have been
repeatedly incarnated although the relationship and
gender would vary through the various lifetimes. Mary
Roberts in her "Seth" books even suggests that soulmates
might be cherished pets in other lifetimes. We receive
protection from or learn karmic lessons from soulmates
when we encounter them. Thus some soulmates are
only destined to meet up with each other very briefly in a
particular lifetime.

Soulmates who are meant to be life mates may have
their Moons in the same signs, or their Moon or Sun
sign is in the same sign as the other person's Venus.
Best connection of all is when both people have their
Venus in the same astrological sign.

When you are considering a relationship prospect, you
can do a quick check on any of numerous internet
(available via search engines), "Ephemeris" programs,
to find out if this binding astrological configuration is
present between yourself and your partner. (An
Ephemeris contains tables of planetary locations
throughout different years. You look up the birthdate
in question and each planet's sign is indicated for that
day.)

Once you are checking the information about Venus,
have a quick look at where the other person's Mars
sign resides as well. Venus and Mars dictate how we
all fare as individuals in relationships in this lifetime. If,
for example, Venus and Mars are in the same sign on
the individual's birthdate, that person has an excellent
understanding and willingness of and for the work and
commitment relationships require in order to be
successful. But if one planet is in an Earth or Water
sign and the other is in a Fire sign, look out! As in
nature, earth and water put out fires, so that person is
their own worst enemy when it comes to relationships.
Similarly Air signs don't work well with Earth or Water
signs.
The elements of the various signs are as follows:
Aries, Leo, Sagittarius - Fire
Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn - Earth
Gemini, Libra, Aquarius - Air
Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces - Water
If one of the people has a problematic configuration
between their Venus/Mars planets, you can accurately
predict that the relationship will not endure or will be
very troublesome. These soulmates are not lifemates,
and will often inadvertently hurt and disappoint one
another because the lessons they are destined to learn
from one another are painful, although they will never
stop caring about each other.
If you find yourself in one of these problematic
soulmate relationships, enjoy the other person, but don't
make life altering decisions based on the relationship.
When interpersonal frustration is starting to affect your
interactions, bail out and back up to a plutonic relationship
or distance yourself from the person if you can and try
to simply salvage the friendship.

The Humour Offering

Have Broom Will Travel

A woman was waiting in the check-out line at a
shopping center. Her arms were laden with a mop,
a broom, and other cleaning supplies.
By her actions and deep sighs, it was obvious that
she was in an extreme hurry, and was not happy
about the slowness of the line.
When the cashier called for a price check on a box
of soap, the woman remarked indignantly, "Well, I'll
be lucky to get out of here and home before Easter!"
"Don't worry, ma'am," replied the clerk. "With that
wind kicking up out there and that brand new broom,
you'll be home in no time."

Make Your Own Flying Ointment

The notorious "Witches Flying Ointment," a dangerous
herbal concoction producing psychedelic effects, was
said to be used by witches in the Middle Ages. It
consisted mainly of parsley, hemlock, water of aconite,
poplar leaves, soot, deadly nightshade, henbane and
hashish. (Of course, witches didn't really fly; however
the ointment did induce incredible hallucinations, psychic
visions and astral projections.)
The following is a modern Witch's flying ointment recipe.
It is safer to use and much easier to concoct:
1/4 cup lard
1/2 tsp clove oil
1 tsp chimney soot (Ugh!)
1/4 tsp dried cinquefoil
1/4 tsp dried mugwort
1/4 tsp dried thistle
1/4 tsp dried vervain
1/2 tsp benzoin tincture
Using a mortar and pestle, crush the dried herbs until
almost powdered. In a small cauldron or saucepan,
heat the lard over a low flame until it is melted
completely. Add the herbs, the clove oil and chimney
soot to the lard base and mix well. Add the benzoin
as a natural preservative, stir together clockwise and
then simmer for ten to fifteen minutes.
Strain this through cheesecloth into a small heat
resistant container and then allow it to cool. Store it in
your refrigerator or in a cool dark place until it is ready
to be used. On a night of a Full Moon, anoint your
temples and Third Eye with a small amount of the flying
ointment prior to astral projection or dream magic.
NOTE: For external use only!
(And make sure you are prepared to change your
pillowcase the next morning!)

My FAQ

Louise asked this question:
I hope you can enlighten me. I notice that a lot of
psychics ask for D.O.B. (Date of Birth) I have to
admit that though I believe in Tarot cards and readings,
I have been skeptical about astrology. Please don't
take this the wrong way. I really would like to know
how it works.
I know Edgar Cayce believed in it. I guess, this is
where I get hung up. How can all the people in the
world be divided into 12 categories and all have the
same personality traits? How can you tell if someone
is compatible by the D.O.B.? Can you enlighten me
on how it works?
Thanks so much.

Atham Z gave this response:
Hello,
Astrology to the layman appears ridiculous lumping all
personality types into 12 categories, I quite agree with
you about that. BUT the Sun is only one planet that
astrology considers. The Moon and the constellation
rising on the horizon (your ascendent) at your time of
birth are equally as important in determining your
horoscope as the Sun is. So now there are 12 Sun signs,
multiplied by 12 possible Moon signs, multiplied by 12
possible ascendents. That means the real astrologer is
predicting for you as one individual in a group of 1728
possibilities based on only those 3 astrological points.
The daily horoscopes in the newspapers are only
lighthearted entertainment and very rarely manage to
tell you something relevant for you.
As for compatibility, remember that there are more
planets being considered than just the Sun and the
Moon. Venus and Mars affect how a person manages
in relationships. Thus if you wish to identify compatibility,
you review the Sun, the Moon the ascendent and the
Venus and Mars placements in the charts for the two
people. (That is almost 62 million possibilities for how
the relationship could work.) Astrology talks about the
signs being air, fire, earth and water, so try to think
about how these elements interact. If most of one
person's planets are fiery and the other person's planets
are mostly watery or earthy, those two people simply
won't get along too well.
Similarly Jupiter dictates our career directions, based
on what sign influences it, and its relationship to all the
other planets. Saturn and Uranus generate challenges
for us at various times in our lives. A natal birth chart
is as individual as fingerprints.
Sure some people are born on the same day and don't
seem to be similar, but that is usually because they were
born at different times of the day or in different locations
on earth, which affects their ascendent. Even identical
twins are born a few minutes apart causing them to have
slight differences in their personalities. It is impossible
to stereotype anyone with any accuracy by knowing
only their Sun sign.
I hope all this has helped you to understand why
astrology is relevant to the fortune teller. I personally
prefer to have a quick look at the person's natal
astrological birth chart to see if there are glaring
challenges marked there, and then use the tarot or
some other divinatory tool to look more deeply at the
details about their concerns.

Trivial Tidbit

Salty Superstitions

We have all heard of the bad luck associated with
spilling salt, and how subsequently throwing a pinch
over one's left shoulder should allay whatever
misfortune.
This belief has roots in biblical times when salt was
a necessary and hard to come by commodity! The
throwing gesture showed respect for one's bounty for
having salt in the first place. Apparently evil spirits
are supposed to lurk on one's left or "sinister" side, and
that is the reasoning for the instruction about body side.

Babies are also sometimes presented with a small
packet of salt, to ensure that they want for nothing in life.
A happy side effect from this gift is protection from
witches because whatever bad spirit supposedly has to
count every grain of salt in the packet before it can work
any harm. The child should grow to be less vulnerable
long before there is time to accomplish any mischief.

Wearing a small bit of salt on one's person, ensures that
deals will be successful. Carrying a pinch in your hand
at night protects you in the dark.

"Help me to salt, help me to sorrow."

You can wish a person bad luck if you take on the task
of salting their meal for them. Even offering salt to
another may bring misfortune.
Knocking over a salt shaker indicates a friendship is
about to be broken, because salt signifies the lasting
quality of friendship.
To ward off evil when moving into a new house,
sprinkle the steps with salt or make sure that salt is the
first item that moves in.
Some feel that every grain of spilt salt means a day of
sorrow. You can avoid those tears by picking up every
grain and throwing them over your kitchen stove. The
cooking heat will dry the tears!

Salt has also been used for divination. Leaving a small
pile on the table at night results in a message on the
morrow. In the morning if the pile is unchanged the
future looks good, but if some salt should have melted,
it is an omen of death.

And if you know any adolescent girls ... , if she forgets
to set the salt seller when laying the table, she is no
longer a virgin! Now that is sure one salty secret to
hold!
