THE YEAR OF THE ROOSTER
(The Chinese New Year)
|
The following is a short summary of how each Eastern animal sign will fare in this, the year of the Rooster. This new occidental year began on February 9th, 2005. There is a quick reference chart so that you can determine your Chinese astrological sign (if you don't already know it) available in my newsletter archives at http://www.Athamz.com/archives/march01.html and the following is a precis of what you can expect in this, the year of the Rooster. How the Various Signs Fare in the Year of the Rooster by Theodora Lau The Rat This will be a year of celebration. New partnerships or a marriage are indicated. Times will be hectic because good things will unfold very quickly. Because of a busy schedule and many commitments, the Rat must guard against infections, cuts, bruises and overwork. The Ox Although there will be a strange or unlikely incident this year, the Ox will be moderately happy and will enjoy some success. The Ox needs to be careful about foreclosures or being swindled. The Tiger This will be a moderate year, and not a time to be overanxious. Whatever large problems beset the Tiger this year can be solved, and help comes at the last minute from unexpected places or newfound friends. The Rabbit A difficult year for the Rabbit in terms of financial resources dwindling and perhaps an expensive setback. It is time for the Rabbit to merge with others and allow them to assist. Be conservative and don't act independently. Problems and obstacles at home and work will be overcome after much frustration. The Dragon A happy and eventful year for the dragon, with good news, promotions and the return of money that was given up for lost. Family life is smooth and looses are recouped. There is the possibility of making new influential friends. The Snake A very auspicious year. The Snake's achievements may be fantastic with deserved recognition and promotion. Rewards come for patience and past perseverance. Profits or a big increase in income can be expected. Home life is pleasant and the Snake reaps the fruits of his labours. The Horse A fair year. Good tidings at home but slight disturbances in career. The problems will be small ones but they may slow down progress. Try to avoid getting too easily upset. The Sheep An entertaining but expensive year. The Sheep spends more than what is earned and may deal with irritating disputes or conflict at home. Don't try to please everyone, and watch the finances carefully. The Monkey A moderate but stable year for the Monkey, with the extra money that's needed and the right contacts to push plans through. Beware of neglecting home life or too much socializing as either can lead to exhaustion and/or overextension about commitments. Do not underestimate opponents. The Rooster A moderately happy year. A time for comebacks, solving problems with ease and finding influential or powerful people who support the Rooster's ideas. There may still be disputes, but no real harm comes to the Rooster from accidents or other calamities. The Dog A mixed year. Problems with health, romance, government or superiors are indicated. Friends aren't helpful or understanding and it is hard to recover whatever debts are due. Career will have some achievements but no large profits or returns on investments. The Boar A busy and fair year. The domestic scene is calm but advancement is curtailed or interrupted. It takes alot of time and effort to overcome obstacles. Be patient with complicated or involved negotiations. |

MY FAQ
Dear Atham Z,
| I've been focusing a lot on trying to learn about my tarot cards and I was wondering if you ask the same question over and over again, could that change your destined outcome? I mean let's say I did a reading on myself and it says something good about my future and then I ask it again five minutes later, the same question, whether or not the cards say the same thing because I repeatedly asked the same question what does that do for my outcome? Does it change and end up being bad? Why do so many psychics say it's wrong to ask the same question, is what I said the reason why? I'm just curious because I want to know my cards and I've done that before.
Thank you. E. Hello, First it is important to tell you that even though you are learning to use a new tool with Tarot Cards, it is a dangerous and addictive habit to read for yourself, let alone repeatedly. You simply cannot achieve objectivity when trying to interpret advice for yourself. When learning to use your Tarot, read for friends and acquaintances and keep a journal of the basics of what the reading indicated; a ournal that you can refer back to in a few months to validate the accuracy of your interpretations. |

Loving the Potential???
The Nine of Cups Reversed.
"Love asks something of the future."
Albert Camus, The Outsider
|
When I read the Tarot and see the Nine of Cups in a reverse position, that to me is a clear indication that the person I am reading for loves the potential they see in someone else. As with most Tarot cards, the reversed positioning is indicative of trouble, and in this case my heart goes out to my client over the futility, frustration and waste of his or her love and energy. Many people embody great potential, but sadly, only a few live up to other people's conceptions of who and what they can be and achieve. This does not result from circumstances, or bad luck, but from their own choices. Often along with this "missing out", goes hand in hand the element of choosing the easier or faster way to what they think they want for themselves. Instant gratification is simply not as rewarding as something that is nurtured, worked at and guarded as it is developed and achieved. When you find that you have "feelings for" someone who simply doesn't seem able to meet your expectations, that does not mean that your expectations are wrong, and it doesn't mean that the other erson can't change. What it does mean is that you have "feelings for" what you know the person can do or how you know they could choose to respond to you. But your feelings are for a fantasy, not the reality of what that person is choosing to make of themselves and their life at this time. It is foolhardy to work to change yourself merely to try to elicit better or different responses from another. It is also foolhardy to step back and wait for some other person to decide to change. You are in charge of only you in this lifetime, and that wonderful(?) person that you care about (but who may be treating you abominably) is in charge of only their own life. You control your own actions and responses, and nothing under the sun besides that other person's own choice will cause them to change, let alone in the direction you are hoping for. As Camus says, love does expect something from the future. It expects the act of loving to be welcome and rewarding, now and for many years to come. It also expects some reciprocalencouragement for the continuation of your love. Inherent in allthis is interpersonal respect, consideration, reliability and gentleness. Too many times when I read this reversed card for a client, the person needs love from the object of their affections so desperately that they become vulnerable to being used by that special other. Being used, is not a component of love. So please don't set yourself up for weeks, months or years of being exploited, byfalling for or generously to someone whose actions don't match their potential. It is very dangerous to offer someone, who is not living up to their potential, control of your life as well as their own. Such offers always lead to years of torment and depression. To conclude, the Nine of Cups Tarot card in the upright position prophecies joy, security, satisfaction, wealth and love. In the reverse, it denotes grasping for the illusion or mistaken possibility of such stability. For your own well being, love the reality, not the potential. |

Humour Offering
| It was opening night at the Orpheum and the Amazing Claude wastopping the bill. People came from miles around to see the famed hypnotist do his stuff.
As Claude took to the stage, he announced, "Unlike most stage hypnotists who invite two or three people up onto the stage to be put into a trance, I intend to hypnotize each and every member of the audience." The excitement was almost electric as Claude withdrew a beautiful antique pocket watch from his coat. "I want you each to keep your eye on this antique watch. It's a very special watch. Its been in my family for six generations." He began to swing the watch gently back and forth while quietly chanting "Watch the watch, watch the watch, watch the watch ...." The crowd became mesmerized as the watch swayed back and forth, light gleaming off its polished surface. Hundreds of pairs of eyes followed the swaying watch, until suddenly it slipped from the hypnotist's fingers and fell to the floor, breaking into a hundred pieces. "Shit" said the hypnotist. It took three weeks to clean up the theatre. |

Scrying
Using a Magic Mirror or Equivalent
| Scrying: The ancient art of clairvoyance achieved by gazing atan object - usually one with a reflective or semi-reflectivesurface (mirror, crystal ball, water, etc.) - until visions appear.
Magicians and witches of all eras have practiced scrying. The term scrying comes from the English word descry , which means 'to make out dimly' or 'to discern.' The services of the scryer typically are sought for predictions of the future, answers to questions and tracking down criminals, just to name a few. In my divinatory practices, I use a crystal ball for scrying, and when people quite understandably question how I can see images in this ball, I explain that it is similar to finding pictures in clouds when you stare for a long time up at the sky. Whatever shapes (in the ball, shadows; in the sky, clouds), start to resemble recognizable images when you open your imagination or perhaps simply when your eyes begin to tire. This very old form of divination facilitates opening up one's psychic abilities and is generally accomplished by staring at an object having a shiny surface until a vision appears. The stereotypical scryer is a Gypsy fortune teller looking into her crystal ball. In the Middle Ages a wise man or woman, sometimes known as a witch, with a natural gift of second sight, was called upon for scrying answers and predictions. Although the object used for scrying usually has a shiny surface, many things have been used for this practice over the centuries. The Egyptians used ink, blood and other dark liquids. The Romans used shiny objects and stones. Water and mirrors are frequently utilized. Scrying explains why the inside of witchs' cauldrons were painted black, because when filled with water at night with a silver coin dropped into the water to reflect moonlight they became multifunctional. The witches in Cornwall found chunks of clear crystal in nearby caves which they polished and prepared as their balls for scrying. Some modern day ns scry in a magic circle to prevent outside influences from distracting or distorting their visions. Most scrying is done at night simply because less intense lighting facilitates the process. After a period of concentration on the reflective surface, visions, mental images, mystical signs or impressions appear. Frequently the images are symbolic and the scryer must be trained and skillful at interpreting their meanings. -----===(*)===----- -----===(*)===----- How your Feline Predicts the Weather A sneezing cat means rain is on the way. A cat running wildly about, darting here and there and clawing everything in sight means wind or a storm on the way, but when the cat quiets down, this means that the storm will soon blow itself out. Cats washing over their ears has long been held to foretell rain: The old rhyme goes - "When Kitty washes behind her ears, we'll soon be tasting Heaven's tears." A cat washing its tail portends showers. A cat that rolls over and over in the grass outdoors, claws the ground and behaves in a skittish manner is indicating that a brief rain shower is on the way. When the cat is restless and moves from place to place without settling, it is foretelling hard winds. A cat that sits with its back to the fire is said to be a portent of frost or storms. When a cat spends the night outdoors and caterwauls loudly it is foretelling a period of several days of bad weather. If a cat scratches a table leg, there will be a change in the weather. |

Psychics and Cops
Friends or Foes?
|
It is quite understandable that our law enforcement professionals would be
highly skeptical of "psychically" acquired information, considering the
number of psychic frauds they expose every year! John Douglas, a retired FBI Criminal Profiler is quoted as saying, "Psychics can, on occasion, be helpful to a criminal investigation. I've seen it work. Some of them have the ability to focus subconsciously on particular subtle details at a scene and draw logical conclusions from them, just as I try to do and train my people to do. But I always advise investigators that a psychic should be a last resort as an investigative tool, and if you're going to use one, don't expose him or her to officers or detectives who know the details of the case. Because good psychics are proficient at picking up small, non-verbal clues, and the psychic could amaze you and establish credibility by giving back to you facts of the case you already know without necessarily having any particular insight into what you don't know but want to find out." Psychics familiar with crime investigation state that the police are too embarrassed to admit they do sometimes use psychics while some forces dismiss them outright because they do not understand them. On the other hand, it is obviously an outright nuisance and hindrance for investigators to process or follow up every "wannabe" psychic's notions. If psychic information was openly solicited, particularly in cases of national interest, there would be many thousands of suggestions that could obscure legitimate information from an actual witness tipster. Scotland Yard confirms they have consulted a psychic in the past to help them with an investigation and the National Crime and Operations Faculty confirms their database has certain individuals registered as available psychics. In Boston in 1981, a Harvard student disappeared. One psychic envisioned her body in a Connecticut pond. Nine years after the disappearance the student's skeleton was discovered, by a woman walking her dog, five miles from that particular pond. From my perspective, that type of fuzzy, somewhat imprecise, information is typical of psychic insight but police are reluctant to rely on psychics, probably in part because the information is not specific or exact enough. The use of psychics is controversial among law enforcement professionals. Yet such use is viewed favourably, because of television shows, the Internet and telephone psychics. While a few agencies across the country, most notably the Fresno (Calif.) Police Department, often have used psychics, many police investigators say they often lead an investigation down the wrong path or give false hope to grieving family members. "I've never heard of or received information (from a psychic) that has even helped solve a case," said Sgt. Gary Plank, a criminal profiler with the Nebraska State Patrol. Representatives of three Nebraska agencies - the State Patrol, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Adams County Sheriff's Office - said they would not employ a psychic in a criminal investigation, although they wouldn't completely ignore their tips. With the imprecise nature of psychic insight, interpreting the tip can
be almost impossible. One family whose daughter went missing in 1997 said
tips from psychics were helpful. The information forwarded by two psychics
- one from Denver who was contacted by a cousin, and one from the east
coast who volunteered information - was similar. In another case about a different missing girl, when the family contacted
a psychic they were told that the child was dead and that they could find
her body near "something that smelled really bad." Tim McFadden, a retired Fresno police detective said more police don't use psychics "because of one word: ego."
