           Keys Don't Just Open Doors
              by Cheryl Lynn Bradley
                         <tarotcanadaintl@yahoo.com>

The wealth of this world consists of treasures to which
there are keys. But blessed is the one for whom the
Almighty makes a key to the world of good, but a lock
to contain evil. -  The Prophet Muhammad

Keys are something we can very much take for granted
in our lives, well, at least until we can't find them. I have
car keys, mail keys and house keys - actually, compared
to other people I know, I have very few keys at all. Lots
of people have keys for briefcases, tool boxes, machinery,
equipment, outbuildings, more than one vehicle, more than
one home, work, cash registers, alarm systems and the list
does go on and on.

With so many keys in our lives, it is little wonder that they
often show up in our dreams and have omens, superstitions
and systems of divination linked to them. In this article I
will explore a few of these themes.

Keys, as an aspect of our psyche, represent the access to
secrets. They both lock away our secrets and our selves
and open up the path to reach this secret place and our way
to freedom. Dreaming of finding keys is a predictor of a
happy solution to any problems you are now facing. On the
other hand, losing keys indicates an unexpected unpleasant
experience or a disappointing friend. Giving someone a key
is a sign of improvement in family and domestic situations
and being given a key is a sign of having assistance from
friends with influence. Putting a key in a lock is a great sign
of sexual satisfaction and romance. Turning a key in a lock
literally indicates that new doors will be opening to you.
Breaking a key or a broken key means an opportunity will
be lost. Dreaming that you are responsible for keys is
predicting a position of authority.

Keys are an aspect of the god Janus who is represented
with two faces turned in opposite directions. He was the
god of beginnings and entrances and of the doors of the
Sun which he opens and closes for the solstices. He has
the function of being a guide opening up a pathway for
initiation. The month of January is named after him. Gates
and doorways were under his protection and his temple in
Rome was open during war and closed during times of
peace.

In the Tarot, Key V The Hierophant is depicted with a set
of crossed keys at his feet. Various sources give different
meaning to what these keys represent, some say they are
the keys to the kingdom, others the keys of St. Peter or the
keys to the temple of wisdom. One key is gold for the sun
and the superconscious mind, and the other one is silver for
the moon and the subsconscious mind. The two keys
represent the uniting of the microcosm and the macrocosm.
The keys are also seen as a link between the Hierophant
and Hades who is the holder of the keys to heaven (higher
awareness) and to hell (instinctual life). The Hierophant is
the power of these keys.

Keys also have a place in our psyche and our myths as
phallic symbols. The key often symbolizes a mystery
about to be penetrated or a stage on our pathway to
discovery and enlightenment.

Cleidomancy is a system of divination which uses a
suspended key. The traditional purpose was to uncover
the identity of a thief or to discern a guilty party and it
was only used when the sun or moon was in Virgo. The
name of the suspected thief was written on a key which
was then tied to a Bible. Both were then attached to the
nail of the ring finger of a virgin who said a special series
of words - an incantation, a spell or a prayer perhaps.
These words seem lost to history as I was unable to find
a reference to them. The movement, or lack of movement,
of the key and the Bible was the indicator of guilt or
innocence.
This practice became somewhat more frightening as it
evolved. Diviners started to include seven Psalms with
litanies and prayers. The movement had to indicate
innocence and the impression of the key had to be found
on the suspect or he lost an eye. A different method was
to put a key to a street door on Psalm 50, close the Bible
and secure it with a garter or stocking. The whole
arrangement was then fastened to a nail and it apparently
turned when the name of the thief or guilty party was
mentioned.

A similar type of divination allowed a young lady to
determine the course of her love life. She placed her door
key at the Song of Solomon section of the Bible with the
key ring protruding. The Bible was again tied with a garter
or stocking and two other people were asked to hold it by
placing their fingers under the key ring. The girl then spoke
this verse from the Song of Solomon:

"Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods
drown it. Love is as strong as death, but jealousy is as
cruel as the grave, and burneth with a most vehement
flame. If a man should give all substance of his house
for love, it would be utterly consumed."

If the Bible turned under the fingers or fell to the ground
then the young lady would marry, if not, she was going to
be a spinster.

Another traditional use for key divination was to discover
the sex of an expected child. The key was placed in a
clenched fist and the pregnant woman touched one of the
two fists. If she touched the one in which the key was
held, then the child would be a girl. It is an old European
tradition to place a key under the pillow of a sleeping child
to ward off evil spirits. Touching a key is considered good
protection against any kind of evil or negative energy.
Dropping your keys or breaking one is considered an omen
of bad luck but if you are lost, throw your keys over your
left shoulder and the longest key will point you in the right
direction. If your keys are continually rusty despite your
best efforts to keep them shining, it is a good sign that
someone is leaving you money in their will.

One word of caution though for everyone with a huge
jangle and jumble of keys, make sure you don't let them
jangle on a Wednesday because this will drive you mad.
I knew there had to be a reason........

                               MY FAQ

Hi.
I'm interested in what you could read for me but before
that I was wondering how you can predict for me when
I'm not in your presence. I also wonder if there are some
people who are simply difficult to be read by psychics
because it seems that a long time ago they weren't able
to see through for me.
Thanks for your time.
Wanderer

Hello,
I cannot read for you based on the information you have
provided for me. I need to know your full birthdate, and
your gender and hair and eye colouration to give me
something to work with for any type of accurate reading.
In the electronic medium I prefer a question from you to
focus upon, rather than simply to try to generate a general
reading.
I do believe that a person's energy travels through the
electronic or telephone system when they seek a reading.
Some people (particularly adamant skeptics) deliberately,
albeit sometimes subconsciously, block psychics from
finding an accurate impression. If those people are so
terrified of the reading process, it would be better if they
didn't waste their own and the psychic's time.
Bests - Atham Z

             Poltergeists
                     (Noisy Spirits)

A poltergeist is a mischievous spirit often attracted to
young teens going through puberty.  "Poltergeist" comes
from the German words "poltern", to knock and "geist",
spirit.  Poltergeists move objects, make noises and create
general disturbances.  The history of poltergeists can be
traced as far back as ancient Roman times.  Poltergeists
have been studied extensively by parapsychologists and
various theories have been put forward.  Reports of
poltergeist disturbances cite loud noises, lights, smells,
physical or sexual assault and telephones ringing.
Usually poltergeist activity stops as suddenly as it starts.
It can last anywhere from a few seconds to a few years.
Activity usually take place when a particular individual is
present - usually a young teenager at puberty or a young
adult in the early twenties.  Some people believe that
poltergeist activity is caused by an unconscious form of
telekinesis by the young person.  Young people have
commonly been known to inquire how they can become
telekinetic showing a natural curiosity about this
phenomenon,
Due to hormonal and emotional changes in the young
person's body, they can create resentful or angry type
energies, and they sometimes throw and destroy things
telekinetically which gives the illusion of a ghost in the
house.
Characteristic activities may include flying objects, foul
odours, loud noises, banging, pounding, unexplained
electrical light activity and even apparitions.
The explanatory general consensus is probably that the
phenomena are the result of subconscious psychokinesis,
a mind over matter situation that is unintentional and is
delivered involuntarily by a person at the site of the
activity.
Research shows that many suspected poltergeist agents
are females under the age of 25 who are completely
unaware that they are causing this type of activity.
Sometimes emotional problems associated with these
individuals have been attributed to the poltergeist activity,
and include emotions such as anger, anxiety, paranoia and

schizophrenia.   With psychological help or often through
only the passage of time, these activities can diminish or
disappear.
Subsequently it appears that poltergeist activity is usually
but not always completely unrelated to hauntings.  It is
often triggered by a living person's trauma.  Poltergeists
can be dangerous both physically and mentally, and
sometimes when they actually leave the physical site of
the activity the phenomena does not stop.

           Humour Offering

Working as a psychic I shake my head about this caller's
question.
The woman wanted me to match up her 5 children with
the correct 5 fathers.  (On the phone of course within her
three free minutes.)
The children being at least 9 to 10 months apart, one would
think she might have SOME small inkling of a clue for at
least a couple of them...?

Playing Parlour Games with your Psychic
                 (or Unreasonable Expectations)

Some people's perception of psychics, seems to suggest
that they are omnipotent. A common inquiry from a potential
customer unfolds as follows:
Psychic Reader: "What is your name?"
Customer: "You tell me, you're the psychic!"
Go ahead and laugh, but therein lies a typical belief for many.
Being labeled as a "psychic", "medium", "clairvoyant" or any
variation on that theme, supposedly endows the holder with
the abilities to see and know about everything, including past,
present and future.
If "psychics" really knew everything about everyone, that
had ever been or ever will be, not only would they know next
week's winning lotto numbers, but they would also be
enjoying the life that kind of money could buy, rather than
attempting to provide insight to unrealistic clients

Another type of belief is the one held by the skeptics. "If I
can't see it, hear it, touch it, smell it or eat it then it's bunk".
Being governed by five senses, anything from the "sixth" one,
simply doesn't exist.
Everyone has some psychic ability, even skeptics! Some
people use it and aren't aware of it - they put things down to
a "hunch", "intuition" or "co-incidence".  Some people have
become so wrapped up in their own fear and problems, that
they have blocked themselves to anything outside of their own
narrow focus. Some people have strong psychic ability but
hide it for fear of what others might think, especially if it
conflicts with their religious beliefs.
However, some people use it and are aware of it, cultivate
it and nurture it. These are very normal people who have
allowed their psychic awareness to develop, to varying
degrees. Small children are often very "psychic", until they
have been told once too often that their "imaginary friend"
isn't real or maybe they've been punished for making up
stories because they knew something that no rational adult
could explain.  It doesn't take long for a child to learn the
rules of conformity and how to avoid difficulty by not
demonstrating any "differences".

Another line: "I'm from a long line of psychics" suggests
that this "gift" is handed down like some mystical family
secret. The main benefit that this person has is that they
grew up in an environment where it was OK to use these
abilities and call them by their names! So of course such
ability would be fostered and grow.

So what can a "psychic reader" really do?
For each psychic the answer is different.  Partly it depends
on the values of the "psychic" and what their particular
abilities are. Some focus on the person for whom they are
reading, their problems, relationships etc and guide them by
helping them to understand themselves better and suggest
where particular paths are taking them. Some claim to be
a “channel” for other spirits or deceased persons to
impart information - these "psychics" are often called
spiritual mediums. Every psychic reader is different and
may use different tools to assist them, such as Tarot cards,
crystals, runes, astrology charts or an object belonging to
the person that they are trying to "tune in" to.

Much of a psychic reading depends on the questions
asked.  If a question is vague or without specific context,
then the answer is going to be equally vague. When
someone comes to a reader and deliberately tries to disguise
or hide details about their life (such as removing wedding
rings and refusing to engage in any type of light as opposed
to probing introductory dialogue) the reading is destined to
be as blocked and as rigid as the person who is seeking it.

Here are some examples of frequently asked unrealistic
questions in readings.

"Will my son/daughter be happy in life?" - does that mean,
this month? this year? the rest of his/her life? do they want
a balance of probability or a day by day accounting?

"What is my future?" - this is a REALLY big one, have
we got a few years to go through all this? or do we
summarize to just the highlights? should we miss out the
bad bits or just focus on the life altering events? would
they really like to know that they are going to spend the
next 40 years married to the spouse from hell because
they don't have any values of self-worth? maybe they
would just like a few colourful tidbits to take away as a
memento and look forward to, because a "psychic" told
them so!

"Is so-and-so my soul mate? If they aren't, when will I
meet them?" - You really need to ask someone else if the
person that you are living with is your soul mate or not?
you can't tell? and what do you mean by a "soul mate"
anyway? Or are you really saying that the thought of
pushing off on your own is so frightening that you want to
hold on to anything until something better drifts past, but
you want to know when, where and who so you don't miss
them?

"Will that good news message arrive next Tuesday or
Wednesday?" - You'd hope that the described event unfolding
within the next few weeks would satisfy the impatient client
in terms of accuracy!

"What does he think of me and when will he call?" - A psychic
can provide an overview of his attitude and some idea about
his contact being sooner rather than later or never, but really,
God knows the details of how and why this man thinks in
whatever fashion, and only God knows exactly the time when
his finger will hit your phone number on the dial.

A popular question after the WTC event of September 11th
was "why didn't any psychics predict it so it could be stopped?".
Well, some probably did "see" the event, perhaps some even
had the date to go with it, some maybe even tried to warn
others. Chances are they would either be passed off as
"nut cases" or locked up as suspected co-conspirators. Do
you really believe that the commercial and political
organizations affected would have been likely to pay any
attention to something that was so far beyond normal
beliefs? Do you think it likely that they would tell thousands
of staff "don't come in today, because this alleged "psychic"
person says the building is going to be bombed"? Or, do you
think it is even likely that crime fighters would have locked
up "suspects" who had not yet committed any crime,
especially if there was no actual evidence?
So without the power to change anything, what would be
the purpose in knowing an event in advance. What torment
would you feel if you knew that something bad would happen
to others, but you couldn't prevent it? Do you think it would
serve any purpose in the grand scheme of things?  This is the
reason why there was no apparent flood of premonitions by
psychics. But, there definitely were people who did have
"feelings" to do something differently that day, without
knowing why.

The question that always galls me is - "What year will I
die?"  I mean if this person put more energy into making
their own life meaningful, their passing might be more
significant to a greater number of people when God finally
does call their number.  Twenty year olds worrying about
their dates of death obviously don't have major plans that
are running out of time before that final event.

Or "Tell me something significant about my past."  This
person is obviously more familiar with their own life events
than any psychic could ever be.  This transparent test to
validate the psychic only causes tension and thus lack of
focus for the psychic during the reading.  Yes, it is realistic
to expect some reasonably accurate allusions to events in
your past to emerge within the reading, but asking for this
type of information up front upsets the equilibrium and flow
of the reading.  Obviously this person's purpose in having
a reading done is to exercise their nitpicking skills and
analysis of the psychic's abilities rather than glean any
insight or intuitive counsel.

And remember, at the heart of every "psychic" is a human
being with human values. They just have a different
"perspective".  Obviously as you can see from the above,
some questions simply can't be answered by psychics and
others definitely won't be answered (by their choice) either.
